Q1 How does a chocolate fountain work?

A chocolate fountain is a stainless steel piece of catering equipment that melts chocolate in a heated basin. A motor driven auger carries the chocolate up the cylinder to the top of the fountain where a warm curtain of chocolate cascades down and over the fountain tiers, giving the illusion of a chocolate waterfall.

Q2 What kind of chocolate is used in fountains from Chocolate Falls?

We use a premium luxury Belgian Couverture chocolate from Callebaut. The chocolate is guaranteed nut & gluten free. Fresh chocolate is always provided and unlike some companies we never re-use the chocolate or use vegetable oil to dilute. We can offer you a choice of milk, white or dark. The white chocolate can be coloured.

Q3 What is Couverture Chocolate?

It is a special kind of chocolate that has more cocoa butter than 'normal' chocolate, anywhere from 33% to 38% for a really good brand. This type of chocolate is used as a coating for things like truffles ("couverture" is French for "covering").

Q4 How many people will a chocolate fountain serve?

10Kg of Belgian chocolate will provide enough dips for about 100-200 guests. More chocolate can be added for larger events.

Q5 Who provides the dipping foods?

We do. These are included in our price.

We also supply, on top of the dipping items, a selection of fruit (e.g. whole pineapples, apples, oranges, grapes) to create a full, lush display. To give you an idea of how the display will look, all pictures on this site are of our own displays at actual events.

Q6 What can I dip into the chocolate fountain?

In our experience, the favourites are: strawberries, marshmallows, profiteroles and fudge. We usually can cater to suit your requirements.

Crumbly foods are the only no-no as they break up and disturb the smooth flow of the fountain.

Q7 Can I use the chocolate fountain outdoors?

The chocolate fountain is for indoor use only. The slightest breeze causes disruption to the flow of chocolate. In fact, it is preferable to be clear of open windows & doors too.

Q8 Is the chocolate fountain difficult to set up, take down and clean?

Not for you! We take care of it all. Our prices include set-up, take-down and travel up to 25 miles from EH32

Q9 Is there a time limit it can be used for?

No. Our standard hire period is 3 hours, though the chocolate fountain can run continuously for longer periods by adding more melted Belgian chocolate. If you would like an extended hire period, call to discuss your requirements.

Q10 What do I need to provide?

The chocolate fountain requires a sturdy level table (capable of supporting 70kg) with table linen, close to a power socket. We will supply the skewers and napkins, but if you would prefer your guests to use plates, these should be arranged with the venue organisers.

Q11 How far in advance do I book?

As soon as possible! Many people book well in advance so book early to avoid disappointment.

Q12 What area do you cover?

We're based in East Lothian, Scotland and mainly cover Scotland and Northern England. Hire in other areas will be considered and may incur additional expenses.

^ Top

Q13 What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cheques, bankers drafts, debit cards and major credit cards.
(3% surcharge for credit cards)

Q14 Is your company insured ?

Yes, we have public liability insurance. Proof is available if your venue requests it.
